Custom fitting is a critical piece of the overall puzzle of providing a golfer with the tools and information necessary to reach their potential in the game. Our fittings will provide accurate appraisals of all nine of the key specifications necessary for a perfect fit including club length, lie angle, shaft type, shaft flex, shaft bend point, shaft weight, grip size, head type and club loft. Poorly fit clubs can make swing faults worse and make swing fixes harder to achieve.

Fitting options at the Mike Bender Golf Academy include:

The Mike Bender Golf Academy is proud to use the Nike fitting system for drivers, woods, irons and wedges. We have many exotic shafts available for testing and the complete line of Nike Golf clubs for you to try.

Coutour Putters

The Mike Bender Golf Academy is one of an exclusive list of facilities that is trained to fit the Coutour custom-fit putters. This system was designed by a golf instructor to be fit by other golf instructors so that the individual's stroke is taken into consideration during the fitting process.

Clubfitter Matt Wilkes

Wilkes is an experienced clubfitter who worked for Titleist for two years as a clubfitter and demo day technicion learning the finer points of identifying the perfect fitting clubs for golfers of all levels. He believes in assessing where the golfer's swing is at the time of the fitting along with what the golfer is trying to improve in his or her swing then adjusting the fitting process to reflect the swing changes that may be in progress. Wilkes also believes that being fit on the range – as he is able to do at the MBGA – allows for more complete fittings because he can see the entire flight of each shot to make a more accurate determination about which specifications are optimal.

Club repairman J.D. Thoms

Thoms has been building and repairing golf clubs for more than 25 years. His high level of craftsmanship has attracted many touring professionals to use his services including Zach Johnson and Jim Thorpe. He is certified as a GCA Accredited Clubmaker and is True Temper Gold Certified and Advance Rifle Certified. Thoms has operated J.D.'s Golf Club Repair, Inc for the past seven years and is now available to help with all of your club repair needs at our academy. Some of his services include reshafting, regripping, lengthening or shortening clubs and loft and lie adjustments.
