Mike Bender Golf Academy
at Sarabande Country Club

The Mike Bender Golf Academy at Sarabande strives to have a positive impact on junior and professional golf. The Academy's philosophy is to provide an environment of excellence wherein everything from the game's fundamentals to high-level keys to competing successfully are taught.
Located on shores of scenic Lake Harris, north of Orlando in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida, Sarabande Country Club offers a luxurious resort setting for students to focus on their golf training, while enjoying the comforts and amenities that other academies simply cannot offer.

At the Mike Bender Golf Academy, we combine the Mike Bender MEGSA Method of teaching with the Academy training philosophy. Our junior, collegiate, adult and professional students do not focus solely on swing mechanics, but are guided in other areas such as proper tournament preparation, effective practice techniques and smart course management.

In addition to solidifying fundamentals and improving physical conditioning, The Mike Bender Golf Academy emphasizes the proper mental approach to a successful career in golf. Scientific research shows that it takes eight to 12 years of training for an athlete to reach the elite levels of his or her sport. Unfortunately, too many coaches approach training with an attitude best characterized as the "win early and win often" approach. At the Mike Bender Golf Academy, our commitment is to long-term athletic development, incorporating all aspects of training, development and management, which is the only true route to long-term elite status.

A specific and well-planned training regime will ensure optimum development and control the stress recovery cycle that leads to over-training and burnout. Ultimately, success is tied to training and performing well in the long-term rather than winning in short-term. There are no shortcuts to success in athletic preparation. Rushing development always exposes shortcomings in physical, technical, tactical, and mental abilities. The uniqueness of The Mike Bender Golf Academy at Sarabande can be defined in its periodization approach to the tactical, mental and physical elements of training.

Using video and computer analysis, students are evaluated to determine strengths and weaknesses. Major emphasis is placed on adapting to the needs of each student. Developing confident, student- athletes, who strive to improve and love to compete, is the essence–and core competency–of the Mike Bender Golf Academy.

Hi-tech Video Analysis
The Mike Bender Golf Academy utilizes a video analysis system which allows an instructor to film a student's swing and digitize it onto a computer. With the aid of proprietary software, the instructor can identify and analyze even subtle faults and illustrate them to the student. Each session is taped and available to students for future reference and to demonstrate tangible progress.

Practice Technique
To achieve the goal of long term athletic development, practice sessions are conducted each day at the Mike Bender Golf Academy at Sarabande. This consistent approach enables students to achieve a greater grasp of the technical fundamentals. The Mike Bender Golf Academy instructors prescribe corrective drills that are tailored to each student's special needs. Additionally, students refine their skills using the MEGSA Perfect Practice Equipment designed by Mike Bender to fine tune and solidify their swings.

Course Management
It takes more than the correct technique to produce champion golfers as each competitive golfer must master the art of managing oneself and the course. To this end, a significant amount of each student's time is spent playing a variety of golf courses under different conditions. All pertinent statistics are recorded and each round is discussed and analyzed with the PGA instructor.

Tournament Preparation
Since mental preparation is a major part of golf, one of the instructor's roles is to assist students in developing formal routines for on and off the golf course. Formalized routines make for more consistent play. Students are schooled on how to handle all types of weather conditions and on how to psychologically prepare for varying conditions during tournament play.

Fitness Training
Sport-specific training is essential to the success of any athlete. The Mike Bender Golf Academy has retained fitness professionals and has specialized weight-training equipment on site to develop and implement golf-specific fitness plans for all students.

English as Secondary Language
Unique among golf academies, The Mike Bender Golf Academy also caters to the special needs of Korean players by offering English as a Secondary Language courses taught onsite, along with public relations, etiquette and speaker training which will be tremendously beneficial when academy graduates compete in the future.
