|Landegren Wins AJGA Killington Junior Golf Championship|
June 28th 2012 - Mia Landegren of Bridgewater, Conn., stunned the field, shooting 6-under-par 64 to move up from a third place tie for a three-day total of 3-over-par 213 to lead the Girls Division.
Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the Killington Junior Golf Championship is a 54-hole stroke play competition played on the par-70 Green Mountain National Golf Course. The event featured 108 boys and 35 girls, ages 12-18, from 15 states and 4 countries.
The final round of the Girls Division was suspenseful as the girls leaders were also tied through nine holes. Second-round leader Jennifer Peng of San Diego and Landegren made the turn even with each other. Landegren got in the groove after the turn, sinking four of her seven birdies on the back nine to prevail at 6-under-par 64, matching the low course record.
“I feel good, a little overwhelmed. I didn't think I would come that close to winning,” Landegren said. “Everything was going right. I putted a lot better than the other two days; I made everything.”
Peng finished second with a 10-over-par 220 tournament total. Grace Choi of Dallas placed third with a 12-over-par 222 three-day total.
Landegren is a student of Mike Bender Golf Academy's Director of Instruction, Cheryl Anderson.
