The Mike Bender Golf Academy is proud to have Scott Shepard, MSPT, CSCS, TPI CGFI, and owner of Plane Performance, LLC, working with our clients who want to reach their full potential on the golf course by elevating their level of fitness. Shepard is a Licensed Physical Therapist and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist who has worked with golfers of all levels on rehabilitation, fitness, conditioning and performance programs since 2003. He currently trains several professional golfers including 2006 LPGA Rookie of the year, Seon Hwa Lee. He also specializes in working with junior golfers and currently trains several top junior players in Central Florida. Shepard's programs for golfers improve flexibility, mobility, strength, power, speed, and core stability. Scott has spent significant time viewing lessons with Mike Bender in order to learn the key components of the golf swing. Because of this he has been able to develop exercises that train specific swing components in order to assist with integration of the proper sequence and motor control of the full swing. He believes the main difference between his programs and other training methods is the ability to transfer the results of training directly into golf improvement. Shepard is a Titleist Certified Golf Fitness Instructor. He also has a Masters degree in Physical Therapy with a practice specialty in sports injury rehab. His experience includes training in Outpatient Rehabilitation under the direction of one of the top Sports Medicine physicians in Central Florida. Plane Performance, Shepard's golf fitness company, specializes in developing fitness and rehabilitation programs for golfers of all skill levels. Shepard's Training Method Shepard believes that developing a well-balanced athlete includes dynamic flexibility, balance, core stability and explosive power in the prime movers of the sport. His goal as a trainer is to develop a sport-specific program that addresses the golfer's physical limitations that can lead to swing faults. After correcting these problems he then believes in performing a complete strengthening program to build a solid base. Finally, he will train the golfer how to use newly-gained strength and stability combined with explosive power drills in order to maximize swing performance.All clients are reassessed regularly to determine improvement or address continued deficits. Shepard strongly believes in educating his clients and empowering them to manage their own health and fitness by providing detailed home programs with pictures and video descriptions. Traveling professional golfers will have special periodized programs developed based on their individual seasonal goals.
