Shepard's programs for golfers improve flexibility, balance, strength, power and stability in golf-specific musculature. He also has traveled with the LPGA Tour performing fitness sessions on-site during tournaments for competitors. Shepard is one of only three Titleist Certified Golf Fitness Instructors in Central Florida. He also has a Masters degree in Physical Therapy with a practice specialty in sports injury rehab. His experience includes training in Outpatient Rehabilitation under the direction of one of the top Sports Medicine physicians in Central Florida. Plane Performance, Shepard's golf fitness company, specializes in developing fitness and post-rehabilitation programs for golfers of all skill levels. Shepard's Training Method Shapard beleive's that developing a well-balanced athlete includes dynamic flexibility, balance, core stability and explosive power in the prime movers of the sport. His goal as a trainer is to develop a sport-specific program that addresses the golfer's physical limitations that lead to swing faults. The other main goal is to correct any physical imbalance that can lead to an injury. "I truly believe that any limitation in mobility or stability in the body can alter good athletic mechanics and lead to poor performance, inconsistency, and possible injury," explains Shepard. "I assess athletes with a functional movement screen developed by TPI. During the assessment I look for incorrect movement patterns. I also work directly with the client’s golf instructor to gain an understanding of the particular swing faults that have been found." All of this information allows Shepard to develop a program that will improve either mobility or stability in the deficient areas. This team approach allows for faster results because the golf pro and Shepard are working on the same goals. All clients are reassessed periodically to determine improvement. Shepard believes in educating his clients and empowering them to manage their own health and fitness by providing detailed home programs with pictures and video descriptions from TPI.
